Microsoft released an update today for the change in Daylight Saving Time (DST) that goes into affect next spring in the United States due to the Energy Policy Act of 2005.  The update also addresses some changes in other timezones.

This update is not currently showing up on Microsoft Update so users will need to download it manually for the time being if they want it.  The update will be included on Microsoft Update, Automatic Update and WSUS starting December 12, 2006.

Updates were released for Windows 2003 and Windows XP.  Windows Vista will included the newer timezone data.

Update 1:

One of our readers wrote in with a reference to another Microsoft KB article that explains how you can edit the timezone files manually. Folks who still have Windows 2000 on computers may have to resort to this method if they want their clocks to stay accurate.
