The Network Security Engineer researches, designs, and maintains information security technologies to facilitate and improve the enterprise security program and secure Carilion's systems and data. This person works with their team to manage enterprise security projects and incident response requiring the participation of multiple specialized IT teams.
The Network Security Engineer supports Carillion’s hallmarks of service excellence and quality for all job responsibilities and researches, designs, and maintains information security technologies to facilitate and improve the enterprise security program and secure Carilion's systems and data. The Network Security Engineer proactively monitors security technologies for unusual or suspicious activities, identifies zero-day vulnerabilities, abnormal behavioral patterns, security trends, and sophisticated cyber-attack techniques to enhance the security program and safeguard the environment. The Network Security Engineer will proactively monitor the threat landscape and current controls to evaluate the effectiveness of the security tools, and manage enterprise security projects and incident response requiring the participation of multiple specialized IT teams.
In addition, the Network Security Engineer frequently interacts with other IT staff on security-related incidents and projects, and coordinates implementation and tuning of security-related technologies, and researches, and educates peers on new technologies. The Network Security Engineer will also Coordinate and perform daily incident response pertaining to security-related issues and events, and performs packet captures and log analysis.
The work environment includes Carilion's data centers and office settings, rotating shifts, including after hours on-call and working weekends or irregular long hours as well as occasional overnight travel.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
Experience: Minimum three years of experience in security administration experience in a large, complex environment.
Experience in monitoring and supporting IDS/IPS, Firewall, SIEM, DLP, and log aggregation hardware/software required.
Licensure/Certifications/Registration: Valid Virginia drivers' license and dependable transportation.
