Job Summary:
We are looking for someone who gets things done. We are seeking a Cloud Security Engineer to join the SynMax team. They will play a crucial role in securing our cloud infrastructure, computing and communication devices and our physical offices. This is a hands-on/individual contributor and small team leader role. They will be required to communicate with and make security-related recommendations to the C-Suite and Technical Product Leads. They will oversee the Security, Compliance and DevOps Team that supports all products in the company. They will build and maintain tools for securing, deployment, monitoring, operations and compliance. Additionally, they will troubleshoot and resolve issues in our dev, test, and production cloud environments and individual computing devices.
This position offers the flexibility of working remotely or in-person at our Houston, TX office. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, have a background in startup environments, and thrive as a member of a geographically dispersed, diverse, and dynamic technical team. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys the challenge of complex systems and working with cutting-edge technologies.
Responsibilities:
Security: Implement and manage security tools and practices to ensure the security of IT systems and software applications. Identify and mitigate threats and vulnerabilities in our cloud platforms. Responsible for maintaining CTO’s security policies.
Compliance: Prepare for and successfully complete audits for ISO27001 and CMMC Level 2 (NIST 800-171) Certifications.
Collaboration: Work closely with engineering to ensure rapid software deployment.
System Maintenance: Ensure availability, performance, security, and scalability of applications.
Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Integrate monitoring and alerting systems to meet internal technical goals and external business needs. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to infrastructure and applications.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or STEM field required. Master’s degree in CS or STEM field preferred.
Experience: 7+ years of experience in a Security Engineer, Compliance Engineer or DevOps Engineer role, with proven expertise in managing compliance preparations. Greatly preferred experience with ISO27001. Any experience with the CMMC Level 2 certification is a plus. Previous work experience in a startup environment preferred. Experience working as a member of a geographically dispersed, diverse, dynamic and multi-function technical team preferred.
Technical Skills: Strong background in Linux/Unix Administration. Proficiency in securing GCP and GitHub Actions or equivalent. Proficiency with CI/CD tools using GitHub Actions. Proficiency in Bash. Familiarity with Javascript, Python and SQL.
Cloud Experience: Experience with Google Cloud Platform highly preferred or an equivalent (AWS, Azure) including management and provisioning.
Security/Compliance: Experience with Crowdstrike Falcon, Twingate, LastPass, GitHub, TOTP auth apps, MFA hardware keys and Vanta greatly preferred or equivalents. Experience with Dependabot, Snyk or Socket desired.
Containerization: Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is highly desirable.
Networking Knowledge: Understanding of networking concepts to include troubleshooting experience.
Monitoring and Alerting: Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, PagerDuty, Slack, GCP Logging and GCP Monitoring.
Clearance: Required active or former Secret or Top Secret clearance or willingness to get one.
