ICANN is currently formulating their 2010 - 2013 Strategic Plan.  In order to define priorities, they have a presentation framing what's on the table ==> http://sel.icann.org/meetings/seoul2009/presentation-strategic-plan-consultation-28oct09-en.pdf  along with a webcast and a survey for interested stakeholders to voice their opinions ==> http://sel.icann.org/node/7103

This may not seem like your standard security "recon and exploit" blog entry - in fact, it sounds like something your boss might want you to read, but what ICANN decides to do has the potential to impact how we use the internet in fundamental ways.   It sounds like the survey is for this next week only, to be used for the first draft of the plan in November.  So if you are interested, read the presentation and get your opinions in.

Thanks for the heads up. I not only filled out the survey, but left some comments.

Correct me if I am wrong, but ICANN itself seems to be limited in scope to the basic backbone protocols - DNS and routing in particular.

The IETF->IESG->IAB seems to have a whole lot more to do with the day-to-day protocols that end users might be a bit more familiar with.

I guess my own perception is that all of these organizations are good at dithering. Endless discussions, and meetings, but there seems to be a complete lack of urgency in dealing with the security challenges of the day.
Add this to the ICANN list...

ICANN approves non-latin domain names.
