For those of our readers in the US, I trust you got your taxes in on time. :) I personally wanted to say I enjoyed meeting so many of our loyal readers at the BOF in San Diego. I always seem to need a vacation to recover from the conferences, so I'm working on the recovery now. Also, as you may remember last month we told you that the daughter of one of your handlers had emergency surgery. I'm happy to report that she returned to school this week and is doing very well. Unfortunately, her father had his own little medical adventure that included a blood-borne infection. Fortunately, he, too, is on the mend now (after massive doses of antibiotics).

Oracle patches

Perhaps lost in the Cisco/Juniper and Microsoft patch announcements on Tuesday, Oracle also did their quarterly patch release. Some of the bugs look like they could be quite serious. See http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/security/pdf/cpuapr2005.pdf

IRC spam worm

We got reports today from several readers about some fast-spreading malware that was spreading via IRC and sending out spam e-mail. It looks like the A/V vendors have finally caught up since they all seem to be catching it now, but as usual this only does some good when the signatures are current. :/ They are identifying it variously as FunLove or Parite.
