We've confirmed that Dropbox is sending out packets every 30 seconds on 17500. If you disable LANSync, it stops.

We've had people on our LAN add an existing shared folder with dropbox and the speed that the files appear is LAN speed (5GB in 30 seconds). It clearly knows other machines with Dropbox and can sync folders on the LAN when available. I suspect this is a broadcast to detect peers

Yes, I can verify that disabling "Lan Sync" resolves the issue.

Yep, disabling LAN Synch in the Dropbox preferences seems to end this behavior.

I think it is the Lan discovery feature of Dropbox. It allowed the different computers to synchronize over the Lan instead sync. from the wan access... (save much wan bandwidth).

Dropbox uses this for their "LAN Sync" feature. I have confirmed that if you turn the feature off, the broadcasts stop.

Correction to previous comment: This behavior is *not* documented on their web site, ...

Dropbox https://www.dropbox.com/ broadcasts on port 17500 every 30 seconds 24 hours per day for unknown reasons. This behavior is documented on their web site, but when we removed Dropbox from a Windows system, the broadcasts stopped. |
