POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for moderate-scale security assignments with limited direction from senior team members. Develops and maintains necessary documentation of security systems, projects, and/or processes to ensure unified understanding of system details. Participates in the review, evaluation, and recommendation of emerging security technologies. Demonstrates problem solving, decision-making, and functional area knowledge. Participates in security projects/initiatives; directs security assignments.

Associated tasks:
Translates and presents security topics competently to team members and AEP's leaders
Establishes recommendations based on options presented.
Presents security information in a clear and concise manner.
Collaborates on team learning needs and engages in opportunities to increase knowledge in security areas.
Gathers first-hand information on security requirements to find the most cost-effective improvements in security posture.
Researches and supplies new opportunities to improve security posture; presents new ideas and approaches.
Manages time and resources efficiently to accommodate multiple assignments.
Formulates most effective work plan and shares with other team members and groups to meet required security objectives.
Communicates the role and expectations of Security in meeting Enterprise Security strategies and requirements.

Education:
Bachelor's degree
OR Associates degree with 2 years relevant experience in security (cyber or physical) or NERC-CIP compliance
OR High School Diploma/GED with 4 years relevant experience in security (cyber or physical) or NERC-CIP compliance.

Experience:
Three or more years of relevant (cyber or physical) security experience or NERC-CIP compliance experience in addition to any experience identified above or graduation from Columbus Collaboratory Cyber Rotation Program.

Minimum Requirements for Security Specialist, Sr.:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree
OR Associates degree with 2 years relevant experience in security (cyber or physical) or NERC-CIP compliance
OR High School Diploma/GED with 4 years relevant experience in security (cyber or physical) or NERC-CIP compliance
Experience:
Four or more years of relevant experience in security (cyber or physical) OR NERC-CIP compliance in addition to any experience identified above.

Licenses/Certifications:
CISSP and GCIH or GRID or other Security certification helpful.

Additional Skills/Requirements:

One or more years of experience in system administration, network administration, and/or help desk.
CISCO knowledge and training helpful.
Familiarity with NEI 08-09 preferred.
Familiarity with both IT and OT systems preferred.
Familiarity with PCAP collection and analysis: Network data collection and the use of data collection software and then WireShark/TShark as the analysis tool preferred.
Familiar with Firewall Principles such as log types and what the log row records; rule attributes; actions such as block, allow, reset, drop silently helpful
Familiar with event and security log reviews.
Familiar with Active Directory and group policy helpful.
Powershell or other scripting familiarity helpful.
